WHAT IS SOUTH LANARKSHIRE NIGHTSTOP?

South Lanarkshire Nightstop is a service working in partnership with the Rough Sleeper's Initiative to provide "one night at a time" safe, secure and supportive emergency accommodation to single young people (16-25) who are homeless.
Accommodation is provided in the homes of volunteers throughout the South Lanarkshire area.

Volunteers welcome the young person into their homes and make a basic commitment to provide an evening meal, a bed for the night, bathing facilities, laundry facilities, a listening ear if the young person wants this and breakfast the following morning. Nightstop provides an out of hours support service for volunteers if they experience any problems or have any queries while accommodating a young person.

Before volunteers are accepted on the scheme they undergo an induction process. This includes an initial interview in their home and a subsequent visit during which the accommodation is inspected and health and safety checks are made. Police checks are run on all members of the household over the age of 16 and two character references are also taken up. Prospective volunteers also attend an induction course covering issues such as youth homelessness, equal opportunities, confidentiality etc. If the induction process is completed successfully the volunteer is invited to join the list of Nightstop volunteers. All volunteers receive ongoing training and support.
