HOW CAN A YOUNG PERSON USE NIGHTSTOP?Nightstop accepts referrals from a wide range of agencies such as Social Work and Housing Departments, Police, Hamilton Churches, Youth Services, R.S.I. etc. Referrals are not accepted directly from young people. Agencies are required to interview and assess the young person and adhere to Nightstop's referral guidelines.Referrals are received by the Nightstop Co-ordinator between 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday and by a telephone contact person (TCP) from 5pm-9pm daily and 1-9pm at weekends. Though accommodation is for " one night at a time", at weekends and bank holidays it can be found for the whole period (either with the same host or a series of different ones) if arranged on Friday or by TCP over the weekend. Nightstop has a responsibility to both volunteers and young people. We are therefore not always able to 'help' and Nightstop is not suitable for everyone. We cannot accept a young person who, at time of referral, is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or solvents, is known to have committed serious, violent or sexual crimes or is suffering from psychiatric illness. If in doubt about any of these issues please contact the TCP to discuss. Each case will be dealt with on an individual basis. |
